The Bike Fitting Kit is a do-it-yourself kit, for Road & Mountain bikes. Instructional bike fitting DVD now included! The Bike Fitting Kit was developed to help reduce injuries, maximize comfort, and improve performance. The goal is to have your bike adjusted, so that on long rides, your body tires equally without having overworked any particular muscles or joints. At the same time you want to be in a position that allows you to transfer maximum power, with minimum effort. It is impossible to ride at your full potential, if your bike has not been adjusted to fit you. At Cycle Time, our goal is to improve the cycling experience, by providing cyclists with the tools and knowledge required, to use their bike to its full potential. Not everyone can have a custom bike, but everyone can have a custom fit! The kit: The Bike Fitting Kit is reusable, and comes with an easy to follow instructional DVD that will take you step by step through the bike fitting process. It will define correct positioning for each step, show you how to make the adjustment, explain how you will benefit from having the correct position, and what the consequences are for not having it. Also included is a level, tape measure, plumb bob, 12 inch goniometer, 4,5,6mm hex keys, and a fine tuning guide that lists 16 poor fit symptoms with a cause and a cure. The fitting: The first part of the fitting is the stationary fit. This is comparable to a fitting done by a professional fitter. It will get you very close to your ideal position. Then you let your body adapt to this new and correct position for about two weeks, then go on longer rides and fine tune your bike based on your body’s feedback. The fine tuning guide is a list of the 16 most common pains caused by a misadjusted bike, the likely cause, and the recommended adjustments to make, to eliminate the pain. This will give you a strong foundation, and allow you to reach a new level of performance in cycling. Who needs a fitting: There is a misconception that if you have the right size bike, it means you have a good fit. This is not true. Selecting the correct size bike is an important first step. Equally as important, is adjusting the bike to fit you. If you skip this step, your body will not be placed in the optimal position to transfer power, and you have an 85% chance of developing an overuse injury. If you frequently go for rides of 20 minutes or more you would benefit from having a bike fitting. If you ride 1 hour per week, you should have a bike fitting. If you ride over 1 ½ hours per week, you need to have a fitting, or you risk probable injuries. How you benefit from using The Bike Fitting Kit: Comfort: With a bike fitting you will improve your comfort on the bike. Lack of comfort can be described as a muscle being used for purposes that it was not designed for. Performance: There are certain muscles that do not get called into use unless your body is in a certain position. Find out how to engage those muscles, and transfer maximum power with minimum effort. Safety: A survey done at California State University of over 500 cyclists found that 85% had had at least one overuse injury, and 36% of them needed medical treatment for their injury. Most overuse injuries can be prevented with proper bike fit. If you ride for four hours a week at a cadence of 80, you will pedal 1,000,000 revolutions per year. Even a small misalignment can lead to major problems over time. Bike Fitting is an important and often overlooked part of cycling. Riding a bike without adjusting it so that your body is correctly aligned is comparable to driving a car without having the tires correctly aligned. Sooner or later you will notice some unusual wear patterns. All too often, the damage to your body is permanent. You can drastically reduce your odds of injuries in the future by purchasing The Bike Fitting Kit today.
